Artist's Description
The Fibonacci Curve is one of the most elegant compositions in art, and difficult for photographers to find (painters have it relatively easy). While this isn't a perfect Curve (see above about "difficult"), it's easy to see how the eye wants to naturally begin at the top right 1/3 point, and then flow through the rest of the frame effortlessly until it leaves up the hillside canyon with the rest of the aspens.
About Joe Doherty
I began making photographs when I was 13 years old. I created a darkroom using a slide projector, some old food trays, and chemicals and paper my brother liberated from the neighbor's trash. 10 years later I was published in Time Magazine, and 10 years after that I was in graduate school studying political science. After more than 20 years studying, working, and teaching at UCLA I returned to my first love -- photography. Where the commercial work of my youth was mostly personalities (think 1980s television shows) I have always been drawn to landscapes, which are now my primary artistic focus.
