About Joe Doherty

Joe Doherty

I began making photographs when I was 13 years old. I created a darkroom using a slide projector, some old food trays, and chemicals and paper my brother liberated from the neighbor's trash. 10 years later I was published in Time Magazine, and 10 years after that I was in graduate school studying political science. After more than 20 years studying, working, and teaching at UCLA I returned to my first love -- photography. Where the commercial work of my youth was mostly personalities (think 1980s television shows) I have always been drawn to landscapes, which are now my primary artistic focus. The photos I post here are a subset of my work. For the most recent stuff, visit my website www.joedohertyphotography.com.
