This is Cold Creek, near Mammoth Mountain, at the Owens River Road bridge in California. Mt. Morrison is on the left, Mt. Laurel on the right, and Convict Lake is down in the valley between them. The car's dashboard reading was 7 degrees (F, not C), and I hadn't tested my gear or my clothes for this extreme. Both came through quite well. Shot while on a workshop with Jerry Dodrill and Jim Stimson, through Mountain Light Galley.
I began making photographs when I was 13 years old. I created a darkroom using a slide projector, some old food trays, and chemicals and paper my brother liberated from the neighbor's trash. 10 years later I was published in Time Magazine, and 10 years after that I was in graduate school studying political science. After more than 20 years studying, working, and teaching at UCLA I returned to my first love -- photography. Where the commercial work of my youth was mostly personalities (think 1980s television shows) I have always been drawn to landscapes, which are now my primary artistic focus. The photos I post here are a subset of my work. For the most recent stuff, visit my website www.joedohertyphotography.com.
